Begrudgingly Grateful
I've been going through the motions of gratitude and peace of mind and patience. I wanted to create this inner peace and contentment with the "Wait" or the "Journey." But the truth is, I haven't.
I'm not so gracious about my gratitude, and I think it's time for us all to admit that we're not so gracious about our gratitude.
So what now? Well, first off let me say that if you do feel grateful for your lot in life then awesome! Keep doing what you're doing because it's working out beautifully! But if like me, you're feeling a bit begrudgingly grateful (or worse), here are some tips on how to change things around:
The Gratitude Gap
There's a difference between gratitude and appreciation. Gratitude is an emotion that makes you grateful for what you have, whereas appreciation is about recognizing the value of something. So when you appreciate your partner for their good qualities and their positive impact on your life, it shows them how much they mean to you. But gratitude fills in the gaps when it comes to our emotional lows. When you are on a long journey to a big goal you are inevitably going to lose steam and begin to feel less hope as the time passes. That leads to feeling frustrated and ungrateful for the opportunities you get to experience on your journey to whatever goal you have. So you'll need a remind of why you're doing this and working on your gratefulness in an intentional way can get you to the gold!
It’s important to be grateful because the benefits are endless:
It lifts your mood and makes you feel happy
It improves your relationships with others
It reduces stress levels
It improves physical health by lowering blood pressure or boosting immunity
Peace Patience is not easy.
Peace, patience and gratitude cannot be learned overnight. They take a lot of practice, self-control, self-awareness, discipline and love for the self. One must learn to love oneself before one can truly express peace, patience and gratitude to others.
The more you practice being grateful to yourself the more you will find that your life begins to change in ways you could never expect! There is no doubt that when we begin to practice being grateful for our lives every day things change dramatically!
The Journey Is looking VERY far to the end.
In my own experience, I have found that the journey is not easy. It's long and it can be painful at times, but there is a light at the end of that tunnel if you keep going. This journey will make you stronger and hopefully more grateful when you reach your destination.
You don't have to do this on your own!
